In November 2008 the CTFC, in conjunction with Wesgro, developed a customized Export Development Programme (EDP) for the Fashion Industry. The programme offers insightful knowledge, presented by Helma International Trading; a locally based export agency which specialises in exporting fashion apparel and accessories to the European market.

Topics covered in the programme include:

• Process overview: from sampling to delivery
• Trade agreements, logistics
• Custom documentation and registration
• Quality standards
• First hand information from successful fashion exporters

For this year’s run of the programme the CTFC invited the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to do a presentation as part of the Export Marketing & Investment Assistance (EMIA) programme, as well as the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)’s Technology Station in Clothing and Textiles to present information on their services relevant to exporting.

The EDP workshop series also consisted of five modules, for this year’s edition of the programme, that is exporter case studies, trade fair information, aspects of quality control, freight forwarding and much more.

This programme is available on an annual basis, to CTFC members.
