Every year the CTFC hosts an Industry Conference as part of the biggest design conference on the African continent – Design Indaba.

The industry conference’s main aim is to raise important industry issues in order to communicate challenges and possible solutions to policy and decision makers within the industry. The CTFC’s task is to further lobby with government and key players to implement the right support structures and services for businesses to overcome identified challenges as well as to further unpack opportunities for the sector.

ANNUAL FASHION INDUSTRY CONFERENCE 2011; ‘Ethical fashion – opportunities for South Africa in the global market-place‘

This year the conference creates a platform for the discussion of ethical fashion as an opportunity for South Africa (SA) within the global marketplace. The discussion also aims to further highlight the importance of ethical fashion as well as create awareness of opportunities ethical fashion can bring to SA’s Clothing and Textile value chain.

The current global demand for sustainable sourcing, coupled with innovation in skills, recycling and organic cotton, creates a Unique Selling Proposition (USP) for Fashion from Africa, and an important opportunity to boost trade. Unique skills, unique products, culture and design, potential for small scale production, are all factors that make Africa an ideal location for creating ethical fashion. Through the ethical fashion movement, opportunities exist for African fashion businesses to successfully compete in a lucrative international fashion market.  Agenda, more information on speakers and registration information to follow shortly.

CTFC Industry Conference 2010 Panel speakers

In February 2010 the CTFC consecutively facilitated its third annual industry conference at the Design Indaba Conference, to address issues small businesses in fashion are facing.

In total the event attracted over 120 industry stakeholders. Panel speakers included representatives and industry leaders from Cape Union Mart, Earthchild, Foschini, House of Monatic, Keedo, Monviso Knitwear,  Stoned Cherrie & ABSA bank .
